Ethylene output in Japan has risen in the month of July 2010, mainly due to fewer maintenance turnarounds undertaken by the ethylene manufacturing plants.

Ethylene production reached 593,700 tons in July, against 508,800 tons in June, up 16.7 percent and 553,800 tons in July 2010, an increase of 7.2 percent year-on-year.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) report revealed that, July saw two maintenance-related plant shutdowns in Japan, while four plants were closed in July 2010.

However, the export volume of ethylene fell 33.9 percent to 154,800 tons in June from a year earlier and in May it stood at 163,700 tons, down 40.1 percent from a year ago.
