Japanese naphtha imports plunge in March

Japanese naphtha imports fell in March from the same month a year earlier, indicating the impact of the earthquake and Tsunami which hit the country in the same month.

Imports of naphtha which is used as a raw material to produce ethylene stood at 1.193 million tons in March, down 10 percent from March 2010.

March naphtha imports too fell by a massive 16.49 percent, when compared with February, when it stood at 1.429 million tons.

The average price of naphtha imports came to $886.1 per ton in March 2011, against $725.3 per ton in March 2010 and $878.4 per ton in February 2011.
