ATC & Mitsui Chem JV, purchase-sale of Benzene & Paraxylene

Benzene & Paraxylene maker The Aromatics (Thailand) Public Company Limited (ATC) announced that company signed the Purchase and Sale Agreements for Aromatics product produced from Aromatics Complex 2 with Mitsui Chemical Inc and Siam Mitsui PTA Co Ltd.
Mr. Permsak Shevawattananon, President of ATC has signed the two Purchase and Sales Agreements of Aromatics products on December 14, 2005. The 500 million US$ agreement signed between ATC and Mitsui Chemical Inc is the Purchase and Sale Agreement of Benzene for 150,000 metric ton / year.
The other 1,000 million US$ agreement signed between ATC and Siam Mitsui PTA Co Ltd is the Purchase and Sale Agreement of Paraxylene for 270,000 metric ton / year. Both agreements will last on 5-year period.
The Siam Mitsui PTA Co Ltd is a joint venture between Siam Cement Group and Mitsui Chemical Inc. The company has its demand of Paraxylene approximately 1 million metric ton / year as feedstock for its PTA plants.
So far, Thailand has the domestic demand of Paraxylene approximately 1.8 million metric ton / year while the total domestic capacity lays around 1.3 million metric ton / year, the shortage means to import the rest to the country.
The Aromatics Complex II Project will be completed and commercial start-up in Q3 / 2008 with the new production capacity of Benzene 363,000 metric ton / year and Paraxylene 616,000 metric ton / year. Therefore, total capacity of Benzene and Paraxylene will be 830,000 metric ton / year and 1,111,000 metric ton / year respectively making ATC the largest Aromatics producer in Southeast Asia.
