The launch of the new data centres is in line with Alibaba's 'Going North' strategy, and is aimed at helping the company increase its market share in the northern region, where it is facing intense competition from JD.com, Chinese media reported.
The new centres will perform about half of the company's computing tasks, according to Jeff Zhang, chief technology officer of Alibaba Group.
“Alibaba has become one of the world's leading big data companies. We are fully committed to building our platform, at the heart of which are efficient data centres that are highly available and robust, of large enough scale to match our growth and make use of a reproducible IT infrastructure,” said Zhang.
The Group is likely to build another data centre in the future. (RKS)
