Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region in association with SIMA is organising the fourth edition of its conference Comptex 2006 on 4 & 5th April 2006 at SITRA Auditorium, Coimbatore with a theme “Advantage IT – How Information Technology can be a competitive tool for the Indian Textile Industry”.
As “time to market” is a principle criterion of Textile buyers these days, a “seamless” and “transparent” supply chain is a requirement. While India has a disadvantage compared to China with respect to larger integrated Textile and Garment Factories, India could use Information Technology to “virtually” unite multiple vendors to present a unified face to the customer
Although the Textile Industry in India is going through a phase of modernization and large investments for enhancing quality and productivity are being made, the focus and emphasis of IT investments has not been a priority among the textile entrepreneurs.
Traditionally the textile industry has been slow in adapting to new technologies and systems. With the post quota regime, the industry has been forced to open its doors to the outside world and share information across the supply chain.
With the Indian textile industry growing both horizontally and vertically, managing multiple operations is becoming increasingly complex. The power of integrated information systems has been successfully tried in many other industrial verticals.
The textile industry has several challenges ahead and re-orientation of the industry is required to enhance its competitive strength and global positioning. The industry must act with speed and proactively to achieve cost reduction, quantum jump in quality and improvement in delivery systems.
