Vanguard Managed Solutions (VanguardMS) has been selected to provide network installation, configuration, and 7x24 management services to all current and planned stores for Pacific Sunwear of California Inc, a leading retailer of youth apparel, accessories, and footwear.

A $1.1 million contract was awarded as a trial in March 2005, calling for VanguardMS to function as the integrator of all network services including those of its two partner companies, CompuCom, which is procuring all required Cisco routers, and CICAT Networks, which is handling broadband circuit provisioning and consolidated circuit billing.

A new $1.3 million contract, awarded last month, extends the VanguardMS solution to the remaining 600 PacSun stores, for a total of 1,100 stores under contract.

That successful trial rollout to 500 stores was completed in November 2005 with VanguardMS providing complete remote network management services. Already, PacSun cites a 12-fold improvement in the speed of its credit card transaction processing, reducing customer wait time from an average of 30 seconds per transaction (with its previous dial-up network) to just 2.5 seconds. It also reports substantial benefits from its simplified, consolidated billing for network circuits.

"From our beginnings as a surf and skateboard shop back in 1981, PacSun has always prided itself on our understanding of our customer base of teens and young adults," said Ron Ehlers, VP, Information Services at Pacific Sunwear.
