IT Strategy Forum held by Department Store Association

Japan's Department Store Association held an “IT Strategy Forum” for the members of the association, system vendors, and credit card companies on the 9th of June.
This forum introduced Mitsukoshi and Daimaru' s IC strategies that have already been implemented, and also revealed the merits in terms of volume and quality with combining IT with department stores.
Mitsukoshi's business model with IC Tags had undergone an experiment. The experiment was done on the denim line for their select shop New York Runway, and has proved to have increased sales and decrease workload for the staff.
The IC tag is placed on items in stores and in storage and helps stores grasp their stock on real time.
Tag readers are placed within the shelves allowing the staff to see the number of stock of each product in each size on their hand phone devises. The system is well used in the merchandising area with less sold-out items.
Mitsukoshi is hoping to use the system to its fullest from different aspects henceforth.
Link International has inputted new communication software by media planning company Neo Cotex for their VMD. This new program has been implemented in Theory stores in Japan and New York.
The stores are now linked online and both stores and the headquarter will be able to view product line-up, displays and total VMD, and establish communications.
VMD's had always differ upon stores and under the responsibility ofthe store manager but this system allowed for a unification and in one week the result was that Theory sales had risen by 30 percent.
Some believe that IC tags will replace barcodes and will bring a new business model to the business. But what can be expected is that these IC Tags will soon be an irreplaceable asset to stores.
