TaylorMade adidas Golf Company (TMaG) has announced the opening of Canada's first Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade (MATT) Performance Center.
Used by professional golfers around the world, the MATT represents a quantum leap forward in the technology, accuracy and effectiveness of club fitting and swing analysis technology. Designed to measure both the components and the results of the swing, the system captures, quantifies and animates the golfer's swing in three-dimensions.
"The MATT represents a revolution in golf analysis technology," said Peter Chandler, Facility Manager at the MATT Center in Toronto. "The system provides golfers with the most accurate representation of their swing that is available today. Tour players have told us, one hour of analysis on the MATT is worth 10 hours on a driving range. The feedback from the system is that detailed, that specific."
Starting on June 19, Canadians will have the opportunity to have their swing analyzed and be fitted for golf clubs at the state-of-the-art facility.
MATT uses the same technology that brought to life the animated characters in the Lord of the Rings and the Polar Express to create a graphic three-dimensional image of the golfer in real time. A Canadian professional Golf Association (CPGA) professional is then able to analyze the data, precisely fitting the golfer with clubs and providing a detailed swing analysis.
Golfers who use the MATT are outfitted with aspecial suit and club; both have numerous infrared reflective markers located at strategic points. The MATT then tracks the movements of the markers using nine high-speed cameras positioned at fixed points around the studio, and feeds the information to a computer.
