SATRA's Mike Wilson's has been appointed chairman of two key international committees – CEN TC289 Working Group 2 (WG2), which looks after European physical test methods for leather, and the physical test commission of the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS).
These committees run in parallel, holding joint meetings to look at physical and mechanical test methods for leather in all applications - including footwear, upholstery and automotive.
By combining IULTCS Commission and CEN meetings the leather industry has made significant progress in developing ISO and EN standards in parallel to harmonise procedures. This work also covers chemical and fastness testing.
SATRA heads the UK delegation to TC289 and participates as UK experts in all TC289 Working Group activities. Other UK organisations in the leather field have pulled out of these activities.
As SATRA's advanced concepts technologist, Mike has helped develop many of SATRA's whole shoe comfort tests, including shoe stiffness and ground insulation assessments. Most recently he has been involved in the success of the Advanced Moisture Management (AMM) test to assess whole shoe sweat management comfort
