At the recent India Economic Summit hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World Economic Forum (WEF) in New Delhi, India, DuPont India president and CEO Balvinder Singh Kalsi strongly advocated the emergence of global R&D capabilities in India.

"At DuPont, we see centers of excellence emerging in long-term R&D related to the disciplines of crop biotechnology and applied biosciences that will focus on improving the country's agricultural productivity for food, feed, fuel and other material needs," Balvinder said.

"These centers will help bring to market solutions based on scientific innovations that address global megatrends related to food, renewable energy and materials and safety and security."

Balvinder spoke at a panel discussion titled "Big Bets on Future Centres of Excellence", attended by global and Indian corporate CEOs and government leaders.

DuPont's first Knowledge Center in India will be operational by mid-2008 in Hyderabad. It will focus on basic R&D, including crop and industrial biotechnology; product application developments for local and global markets; high-end engineering services; and intellectual property protection.
