The Tricon is an industry-certified state-of -the-art fault tolerant controller based on triple-modular redundant (TMR) architecture for safety and critical control applications. The TMR architecture employs three isolated, parallel control systems and extensive diagnostics integrated into one system.
The system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high integrity, error-free, uninterrupted process operation with no single point of failure. The Tricon controller's redundant control functions and diagnostics are embedded and transparent, and the system behaves as a single control device to the engineer or operator.
The new Tricon implementation at Lotte Deasan Petrochemical adds to Invensys presence at the Deasan petrochemical complex. An earlier Tricon installation has been in service since 2001 for safety instrumented systems and integrated turbine/compressor control at the second NCC plant owned by another company in the complex.
Lotte Daesan Petrochemical Corporation is a business unit of Honam Petrochemical Corporation. The Lotte Daesan NCC plant is part of the large integrated complex at Daesan, which was previously owned by Hyundai Petrochemical and is now operated by several companies. From two NCC plants and 24 satellite facilities, the entire complex produces over one million tons of ethylene products and 3.3 million tons of affiliated products, the largest amount for a single complex in the world.
