Exports of textile products—including yarns, fabrics, and related articles—rose *.* per cent to $***.*** billion from $***.*** billion a year earlier. This growth highlights relative resilience in upstream segments, supported by steady demand for industrial, home, and technical textiles. These categories are typically backed by longer-term supply contracts and are less exposed to fashion cycles, pricing volatility, and rapid inventory corrections.
In contrast, garment and accessory exports fell *.* per cent year on year to $***.*** billion from $***.*** billion. The decline reflects ongoing inventory rationalisation by overseas retailers, cautious ordering amid weak consumer demand, and continued diversification of sourcing to lower-cost manufacturing hubs such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Turkiye. Rising labour costs in China, tighter compliance requirements, and heightened geopolitical and trade-policy risks have further accelerated the shift away from China in labour-intensive apparel categories.
