Pashmina and carpets were among the major exportable products of Nepal that posted a robust growth during Nepali fiscal year that ended on July 15, 2012.

Nepal exported Pashmina products worth Np Rs. 3.23 billion during last fiscal, showing a rise of 42.1 percent year-on-year.

The Nepal Pashmina Industries Association (NPIA) attributes the increase in exports to registration of ‘Chyangra Pashmina’ trademark, which has now been accepted in 41 countries.

The process to register the Chyangra Pashmina trademark is ongoing in some other countries, including China, Brazil, UAE, Russia and South Africa, according to the NPIA.

During 2011-12, Nepal exported Np Rs. 6.93 billion worth of woolen carpets, registering a significant growth of 42.7 percent year-on-year.
