Indian shawls, which once made international statement, still find enough demand in global markets in spite of the European markets passing through a slowdown phase during the past one year.

“There is no decline in demand for Indian shawls. In fact, the demand is neither rising nor declining. It is stable,” Mr. Gaurav Sharma, owner of Tri Star Overseas, manufacturer and exporter of shawls and scarves, told fibre2fashion.

Mr. Nitin Nath Mittal, proprietor of Patiala-based Dedicated Impex Company, which exports fashion accessories, says, “Indian shawls are popular in global market for their fabric and also because they are hand-made. In fact, Kashmiri shawls are very famous in international market.”

“However, the competition for Indian shawls is growing in global markets,” he admits.

On the other hand, Ms. Bindu Rakesh, Director of Woolgold Shawls and Stoles, avers, “There is enough demand for Indian shawls and stoles in foreign countries, especially Italy, France, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, the US, the UK and countries in the Gulf region.”
