ASWGA launches plan to rescue Aussie superfine wool sector

The Australian Superfine Wool Growers’ Association (ASWGA) has launched a plan to save the country’s superfine wool industry from financial ruin.

The association would pitch for growing finer and lighter wool, and properly marketing the same, Helen Cathles, president of ASWGA said, abc.net.au reported.

Superfine wool accounts for only 20 percent of the total wool clip sold in Australia. The specialty wool is used in the production of luxury apparels, including suits, innerwear, dresses and sportswear.

Ms. Cathles said superfine wool growers have not recovered their cost of production for the past ten years and ASWGA members must resort to growing more of finer and lighter wool to save themselves from financial ruin.
