Australian Wool Innovation Limited conveys that according to US Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) data, US wool apparel imports decrease by around a quarter in November year-on-year and when compared with the month of October the fall was even more dramatic - more than half.

The month-on-month decline reflects the usual seasonal pattern of wool apparel imports by the US and was probably highlighted by the high levels of wool apparel imports earlier in the year as retailers and wholesalers attempted to secure cheaper product from China before trade restrictions were placed on products.

While wool apparel imports in aggregate recorded a significant year-on-year decline in November, some of the key wool apparel products continued to register strong year-on-year gains.

Men's wool suits recorded a significant volume increase during November (compared with November 2004). Similarly, US imports of men's wool coats continued to register strong year-on-year gains during the month of November, with China dominating as supplier in this product area as with the wool suits.

The other entire key US wool apparel product imports (men's and women's trousers, men's and women's sweaters and women's skirts) recorded declines during November compared with the same period a year earlier.
