Dr Stephens said the recent launch of AWI's Performance Merino fabrics targeting the $50 billion global sportswear market was another example of the focus on working directly with the key decision makers.
“Since the range was launched at ispo trade fair in Germany, we have at least 20 sports apparel companies seeking to source and further develop Performance Merino fabrics for their ranges over the next two years," he said.
Dr Stephens said while much of the focus until now had been in China and Hong Kong, the strategy would be expanded to businesses in other key centres including the US, Europe and India.
“The US is home of the world's great sportswear and retail brands and the most affluent consumer market and we will be increasing our focus on working with key companies there," he said.
“Similarly, much of the innovation in apparel design and manufacturing comes from Europe, and the leading apparel companies there are vitally important partners for the Australian Merino industry."
