Western Australian wool faces seasonal conditions

Evidence of this has already been seen with wool producers in the northern regions of Western Australia having to euthanise lambs from this years drop to assist the ewes chances of survival for next breeding season.

Looking forward with pasture growth so low and crop yields expected to be greatly reduced it is very likely only a small percentage of wool producers will have the resources to carry stock through this coming summer.

Wool producers who have remained in the industry to date have shown a strong commitment to the industry, it is now time the industry shows the same commitment to wool producers in price returns if it wants to ensure supply for the future.

Hard decisions will be made shortly by many wool producers whether they continue to carry stock at considerable additional production costs.

If the wool market cannot show these productions costs are justified this seasonal event will send the Western Australian sheep flock below a critical mass that will make recovery for the future extremely difficult, if at all.
