WollPoll asks growers to avoid protest vote

With WoolPoll vote scheduled on September 03, the producers are being requested not to cast protest vote against the two percent levy applied to sponsor Australian Wool Innovation's (AWI) research, development and marketing programmes.

Scheduled merger of AWI and Australian Wool Services (AWS) has made growers fear that levy paid by them would be used to pay the debt of AU $27 million AWS owes in England.

WoolPoll 2006 Chairman, John Keniry, said that zero percent levy will result in no income which will be followed by closure of the grant by Federal Government.

Keniry warned that the unavailability of funds with AWI will eventually lead it to closure which will be a very unfortunate for research and development.

Meanwhile, wool market in the west has remained stable this week.
