Fur exports record staggering $78.8mn

Turkey's fur exports reached US $78.8 million in first six months of 2006, an increase of 29.1 percent compared to $61 million during the same period 2005, informed the Istanbul Textile & Apparel Exporters' Association (ITKIB)'s General Secretariat.

Russia was the biggest importer of Turkish fur for the second consecutive year with $38.17 million. Second spot went to Germany, which imported fur worth $8.88 million, registering an increase of 18.1 percent.

But the biggest increase in exports in terms of percentage was recorded with Lithuania by staggering rise of 1,127 percent at $7.43 million from $659,000 during the first half of 2005.

On the other hand, there was a decline as well with the exports to Ukraine by 40.2 percent to $629,000.
