WAFarmers votes for higher wool levy

Backing an increase in the current 2 percent grower levy, the WAFarmers wool council has given a vote of confidence to Wool marketing.

Majority of votes for 2.5 percent will allow Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) to spend $27 million on product marketing each year for the next three years, $11 million more than a 2 percent levy would allow.

Growers have five levy rates to choose from — zero, 1, 2, 2.5 and 3 percent.

Following a teleconference the WAFarmers wool council has recommended that woolgrowers vote for a 2.5 percent levy rate in this year's WoolPoll, the votes for which close on November 3.
