PETA & Aussie Wool Group reach agreement on mulesing

After nearly a year of demonstrations and campaigning to end mulesing mutilations of lambs and live-sheep exports in Australia, a historic agreement was signed yesterday by the Australian Wool Growers Association and PETA.

This agreement, if ratified by sheep farmers throughout Australia, will establish a time frame for ending mulesing by 2010 and require either that live-export standards for sheep comply with Australian welfare standards governing the care of domestic animals or that live-exports be phased out by 2010.

To give other wool-industry bodies time to review the proposal, PETA has called for a 45-day moratorium on the Australian Wool and Benetton campaigns. For more information, please visit SaveTheSheep.com.
