"Wool Harvesting and Wool Production research are the most mature areas of AWI's research and development, and many projects have delivered outcomes or are close to it," Mr McLachlan said.
"This allows us to reduce the focus of spending in these areas without adversely affecting gains in on-farm productivity."
AWI's budget has been cut due to an expected reduction in woolgrower income and levy payments created by the drought. The AWI Strategic Plan (2004-2009) - Update 2005 forecasts total expenditure of $386 million over the five years, down from $421 million previously outlined.
