British wool, as a natural and sustainable fibre, should be earning the full support of every consumer who is concerned about the environment, says south-Wales sheep producer Jonathan Jones, who has been elected to the British Wool Marketing Board's Welsh Southern regional committee as the county representative for Glamorgan.
Mr Jones runs an upland farm of 200ha with his parents Margaret and Tydwil and his wife Jane. The farm carries 850 Glamorgan Welsh Mountain ewes with a proportion of the flock put to the Texel ram to produce prime lambs.
Jonathan, who has two teenage children, has served on the Farmers Union of Wales land use committee and was an active member of Bridgend YFC.
“Consumers need to focus their attention on the fibre that they wear, walk on and insulate their homes with. This is where wool has a tremendous role to play and if we can make more people aware of the environmental advantages of wool we will ensure that farmers continue to produce it.”
“The sheep industry has been going through some very difficult times but we have to look ahead. Wool is the ultimate green product that can be put to a host of different uses” said Jonathan.
