He also reaffirmed the industry's commitment to the phase-out of mulesing and confirmed that Australian Wool Innovation's (AWI) effort to deliver alternatives is meeting expectations.
The Tasmanian Farmers & Graziers Association (TFGA) has also committed to phasing out mulesing within the stipulated dates.
In a recent survey conducted by AWI it was found that nearly 32% of sheep will not be mulesed in 2008 compared to just 10% which were not mulesed in 2004. It highlights the progress being made by industry to phase out mulesing.
The Australian Wool growers are now facing opposition from big time retailers in Denmark like Jack & Jones, Norlie, Red & Green, Birger Christensen and Stig P who favour this protest with American retailers like Abercrombie and Timberland now joining them.
Most of them are of the opinion that there are alternative to mulesing and unless these are taken up, demonstration against Australian wool is unlikely to subside.
