In the first half of this year, wool imports of China touched 164,250 tons, representing a year on year decline of 8.1 percent over the corresponding period last year.
Of these, raw wool imports accounted for 125,900 tons, down 12.25 percent, clean wool marked 23,800 tons, an increase of 20.49 percent, wool tops scored 9,114 tons, down 8.9 percent while carbonized wool commanded 3,236 tons, sliding by 26.02 percent.
Australia still remained the largest supplier of wool to China, which imported a total of 93,740 tons of wool from that country in the period under review but plummeted by 16,000 tons or 14.6 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
However, a 23.6 percent increase was witnessed on wool imports made from New Zealand which amounted to 22,840 tons. Besides, China also imported 12,350 tons of wool from Uruguay, 5,634 tons from South Africa and 5,363 tons from Argentina.
