The retailers and woolen mill owners of North Asia, during their recent meet with the Australian Superfine Woolgrowers, complained that the year 2009 was the toughest.

The President-to-be of Superfine Woolgrowers, Helen Cathles, said that, Japan is witnessing consumer-interest, especially in quality wool- products.

She also informed that a certain number of Chinese wool mills were finally adopting new technologies for fibre production.

According to Cathles, the global financial meltdown played the role of a catalyst by bringing together all sectors of the wool industry, offering them an opportunity to work mutually.

She concluded by saying that there was an urgency to alter the culture for superfine wool, and that each processing stage and stakeholders need to be viewed with a different perspective.
