Respected as both a visionary designer and astute businessman, Armani was admired for his tireless dedication and ability to marry style with substance. “Il Signor Armani, as he was always respectfully and admiringly called by employees and collaborators, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones,” the company added.
Armani, often known as Re Giorgio or King Giorgio, was synonymous with understated sophistication, transforming men’s and women’s suits into fluid, unstructured garments that defined a new era of style. His minimalist tailoring and neutral palettes became a hallmark of contemporary fashion, influencing designers worldwide and making him a fixture on Hollywood’s red carpets.
Founded in 1975, his brand grew beyond fashion into music, sport, interior design, and luxury hotels, generating more than €2.3 billion annually. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Armani retained private ownership of his company, allowing him to maintain creative and business control across every detail—from advertising to runway presentations.
In June 2025, Armani missed his own shows during Milan Men’s Fashion Week for the first time in his career, as he recovered from an illness. His absence prompted concern across the industry, long accustomed to his hands-on presence.
Armani’s passing leaves a profound void in global fashion, but his influence endures through the timeless aesthetic he pioneered—sophisticated, modern, and distinctly Italian.
