Angel's Bridal's Monica Sanchez, founder and in-house designer of San Jose Quinceaneras dresses has made quite a name for herself throughout San Jose for her unique Quinceanera dresses, available in military, animal print and masquerade styles to name just a few.
"My passion is always to design beautiful dresses especially for Quinceaneras," said Monica Sanchez. "I would love for the Quinceanera tradition to continue forever."
Since she was 16-years old, it was Ms. Sanchez's dream to become a fashion designer. Born and raised in Mexico, she spent her time as a child creating beautiful dresses for her dolls. With her Mexican roots, she understands and appreciates the importance of Quinceaneras. Her dreams of a design career eventually brought her north to California and she established Angel's Bridal in 2004 and runs it with her mother and daughter. They can create just about any type of dress with the help of their experienced staff of seamstresses but focus mainly on providing elegant dresses for brides and Quinceaneras.
Quinceanera is a tradition that celebrates a girl turning 15. The celebration symbolizes a girl becoming a young woman and is popular in Mexico, Puerto Rico and South America. Today's celebrations embrace religious customs, and the virtues of family and social responsibility. The custom highlights God, family, friends, music, food, and dance.
Girls are allowed to choose special friends to participate in the festivities known as a “Court of Honor.” The honorees can be composed of siblings, cousins and friends and can be either male or female. The event can be held at a home or a banquet hall and the festivities include food, music and a choreographed waltz or dance performed by the Quinceanera and her Court.
Ball gowns are traditionally worn for the girls and tuxedos for the boys. Guests usually receive small tokens, cápias and cerámicas, to commemorate the celebration and the Quinceanera can be given gifts such as a tiara, cross or medal, or a bible and rosary.
