Toronto fashion designer Breeyn McCarney has collaborated with artist Irena Komadinic to present 'Vessel', a collection of couture dresses inspired by the human heart. The collection will show at Red Bull 381 Projects in Toronto, Canada, on May 29th 2012 at 8PM.

This collection is homage to the human heart, with textiles hand-dyed and painted by Komadinic and cuts engineered by McCarney. Delicate water colour washes in blood hues are embellished with Breeyn's signature beading, knitting and leather-craft techniques. Deeply dramatic, this portfolio collection seeks to highlight the skills and services offered by the artists - Irena's beautiful and emotional paintings, and Breeyn's laborious custom work.

Choosing not to show at Toronto's MasterCard Fashion Week, Breeyn wanted to distance the label from mass commercialization and present a fashion show that focused on the incredible couture quality and tailoring of the dresses, something the label is known for. "Toronto World MasterCard Fashion Week just doesn't feel like the right fit for me - the drama and theatre of working with the entire environment is part of the show. The music, the venue, everything contributes to that very ephemeral world that only exists for 8 minutes."

The show's sponsors include Nine West, Red Bull, Katie Marie Makeup, Betty Kiss Style, Anice Jewellery and Priceless Beauty.

'Vessel' is a product of a new wave of community involvement happening in the Toronto fashion scene. By utilizing crowdfunding to produce the show, Breeyn has stepped away from the traditional expectations of the Toronto fashion scene.

"It's thanks to the help of the community at large that Breeyn and Irena have been able to develop the impressive collection that will be displayed on May 29.

"There aren't many avenues for funding design in Toronto. We are deeply grateful and honoured that so many people chose to be a part of this project - it is so much better because of that."

Breeyn McCarney works to balance her interest in politics and world events with her drive to create beautiful objects of fashion. She loves old-fashioned craftsmanship utilizing embroidery, knitting, leathercraft, and beading to embellish her garments.
