Lovers of art, style, and history alike will revel in the exhibition Fashion and The Field Museum Collection: Maria Pinto. This thoughtful presentation showcases clothing masterworks from the Museum’s collections, selected by esteemed Chicago fashion designer Maria Pinto. These works are presented in tandem with contemporary pieces created by Pinto herself and displayed exclusively at The Field Museum.

The exhibition will run from September 14- Jun 16, 2013.

Maria Pinto has selected what her designer’s eye tells her are the most beautiful and intriguing clothes and accessories at The Field Museum.

Attracted by their forms, textures, and surprising materials, Pinto then drew connections between Museum garments and her own designs from recent spring and fall collections. Her intuitive sense for provocative combinations provides a fresh look into artifacts like Inuit fur shorts and an Ethiopian shield made of hippo hide.

And inspired by a 19th century Chinese theatrical headdress, Pinto has designed a new ensemble of women’s wear, expressly for this exhibition.
