Famous British fashion designer and environmentalist Stella McCartney has made it to Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honours list of 2013 for designing Team Great Britain’s outfits for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The 41-year-old designer, who was recently awarded with the titles of Designer of the Year and Designer Brand of the Year at the prestigious British Fashion Awards, will now be honoured with the coveted and respected Order of the British Empire (OBE).

McCartney, daughter of former Beatles member Sir Paul McCartney, designed nearly 500 individual sportswear pieces for Great Britain teams participating in Olympics and Paralympics.

The New Year Honours is a part of the British honours system, where the first day of the New Year is celebrated by naming new members of orders of chivalry and recipients of other official honours.

Initiated by King George V in the year 1917, the Order of the British Empire is an order of chivalry given to people for their outstanding contribution to their respective fields.
