This year, the organizers of the sustainable fashion design competition EcoChic Design Award are inviting applicants from countries like China, Singapore, United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Germany.

Entering its fourth cycle, the contest will choose eight finalists (after a rigorous training, mentoring and selection process), who would later showcase their sustainable designs at the upcoming Hong Kong Fashion Week in January 2014.

The contest finalists will also be awarded with the opportunity to attend a two-day seminar in Hong Kong and the first winner would have the coveted honour to design an exclusive sustainable collection for Esprit label.

Started in 2011, EcoChic Design Award encourages designers and students to create mainstream fashion clothing with minimal textile waste, using sustainable design techniques.

The competition also inspires participants to utilize textile wastes in their competition designs by using zero-waste, up-cycling and reconstruction methods.

Last year, Gong Jia Qi, a young Chinese fashion design student, had won the best designer title at ‘The EcoChic Design Award China 2012’.

The contest is being organized by the NGO ‘Redress’, which promotes environmental sustainability in the fashion industry by reducing textile waste, pollution, water and energy consumption.
