Valkyries of Norse mythology inspires Eugene Lin's line

Eugene Lin’s new S/S’14 collection is interlaced with figurative references to the fabled Valkyries of Norse mythology. These female spirits of battle become swans with the aid of feathered cloaks – and legend has it that if one captures a Valkyrie whilst bathing in a river, they can extract a wish from her.

Washed in white, the collection is a panoply of soft tailoring, feathers and feminine hues structured by a high-waisted and mid-length silhouette. Jackets and coats feature draped necklines, while the cross detail – inspired by the folding of Valkyrie wings on the body – is worked through sculpted dresses and separates.

Trousers and pencil skirts are cut slim, with both fixed and loose pleats for texture and movement. Feather prints in contrasting tones add a sophisticated complexity to the feminine shapes via hand-crafted three-dimensional textured screen-prints, alongside minimal digital printing techniques. Plain coloured fabrics are treated with unique coatings to produce a distinctive fresh and wet look.

S/S14 also sees the growth of the brand’s accessories range, marking the debut of footwear and bags.

Fabrics: hand-crafted screen-print on cotton sateen; wool suiting; leather; worsted wool; fine wool crepe; techno-coated cotton; digital printed and plain silk chiffon; duchess sateen; pontirama.

Colours: bone white, optic, ivory, tangelo, orange-red, pumpkin, jet black, onyx and ebony with metallic accents in silver and gold.

Eugene Lin is a trained pattern cutter from Central St Martins and each garment is meticulously executed. Eugene studied Fashion Design Womenswear before working with Vivienne Westwood and Roksanda Ilincic.
