Dame Vivienne Westwood, the English fashion design veteran known for creating clothes with strong political and environmental messages, has recently unveiled a new unisex collection.

The 73-year-old has designed a new autumn/winter line, which features strong anti-fracking illustrations and slogans, in collaboration with her business assistant and spouse Andreas Kronthaler.

Based in relaxed silhouettes and decorated with jungle prints, the range is made with natural vegetable dyes derived from liquorice roots.

Emblazoned with slogans like ‘What’s good for the planet, is good for the economy, what’s bad for the planet is bad for the economy’, the collection includes jackets with overlapping flaps, knitted jumpers and loose-fit shorts.

A known political activist, the Derbyshire-born designer has always been actively involved in issues related to nuclear disarmament and climate change. She is being largely credited for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream.

Fracking is a method through which hydraulic fluid is pumped into the ground to essentially crack open the rocks to release gas and shale oil. According to experts, the practice pollutes groundwater and can cause earthquakes.
