Round table meeting aimed at promoting state-owned and private fashion enterprises, designers, fashion teachers and policy makers, was held by British Council in Ha Noi.
The meeting discussed the development of fashion industry in country.
Vietnam Garment and Textile Association, Chairman, Le Quoc An, regretted the fact that designs were not rated high by fashion industry at home or abroad.
One of the problems with young Vietnamese designers is that they have focused mainly on haute couture fashion, primarily suitable for catwalk but fashion today has shifted towards ready to wear market, stated Diep Thanh Kiet, Chairman of the International Garment and Textile Training Centre (IGTC).
Experts also discussed providing young designers appropriate platform to showcase their designs, starting comprehensive training programme along with opening of fashion colleges.
British Council has actively involved itself in Vietnamese fashion since 2002 and has organised shows, training workshops in Ha Noi and HCM City.
