Young Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee takes Indian fashion to the world stage with his collections in Olympus Fashion Week that unfurls in Bryant Park.

The Calcutta-based designer stormed into the fashion world with his cavalier treatment of traditional colors and of khadi, the Indian national fabric, damaging vintage saris with acid sprays, re-embroidering and reimagining them as Western sportswear.

His cavalier treatment, though repulsed in his debut shows in Mumbai and Delhi, was validated by the buyers from Browns in London and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York who saw international appeal in his outrageous creation.

The 30 year old sensation, who went on to win a National Film Award this year for his designs for the Bollywood movie Black, hopes to take Indian fashion to the global stage with his exotic and exquisite creation.

Tracey Ross, an actress best known for roles on the soap operas Ryan's Hope (1985-1987) and Passions (1999) - will showcase his fall collection in Los Angeles.

His spring collections sublimely combine panels of silk and cotton weaves with cotton velvet, lightly embroidered khadi and heavily embroidered floral fabrics, inspired, albeit unrecognizably, by old tin teapots and Egon Schiele.
