Renowned designer for the last 35 years, James Ferreira quite surprisingly does not have a store having his own signature. But the wait is finally over.
In collaboration with designer Kunika Singh, he is scheduled to open D'Box in Mumbai.
James is busy preparing a sari unfolding its designs at home looking all set for the D-day. Plenty of clothes can be seen that include formal dresses, pants, skirts, jackets, blouses, kurtis and a variety of menswear.
He says that his collections do not follow international fashion terms and still they are very much unique. Clothes look classic in nature and he himself does the cutting and embroidery work.
Collections in the store include mix of Indian and western wear, lots of drapes and draw strings which are visible in a range of fabrics- silks, handlooms, woven fabrics, creps, chiffons and so on.
In the new breed, he likes the works of Savio Jon and Sabyasachi Mukherjee as he hastens to add that the entire new crop is promising. He projected that in the coming days, we may find plenty of stores being opened as today we have designers who are wealthy as well.
After the opening of the store, he will start working for the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week and his theme is based on 'Maharashtra'. He plans to use plenty of rural and rustic fabrics.
Ferreira is also critical of the trend where film stars are doing catwalk for their designer friends. He laments it saying that it has ruined the model industry.
