Village of Piedmont resident David Abrams only designs and creates knitwear for his family, making everything from children's sweaters to slinky, embellished evening gowns.
Abrams uses a computerized knitting machine, exotic yarn and a great deal of imagination to create bright, colorful, wearable art for his son, grandchildren and the women in his life, his wife, Marjorie, and their daughter, Laurie Duquette.
Abrams' knitting machines can combine up to four different yarns into one garment. A small computer in the machine controls which needles take up which yarns, so a variety of patterns can be created.
While there are commercial patterns available, Abrams, who describes himself as a “born tinkerer,” prefers to use his own designs coming up with a pattern, choosing the yarns, and figuring out the thread count and math patterns.
