Three women designers offered different collections on Thursday at the 'ladies' day' of London Fashion Week.
The French fashion designer Nicole Farhi, presented her autumn/winter collection with easy tunics over wide trousers and simple dresses, layered under cashmere 'Rex Harrison' cardigans and under-leggings.
She had designed the evening wears with a hint of glitz, tunics with shiny silver sequins and gentle slip-dresses with a 'veil' of smoke-grey silk chiffon.
Models strutted with blanket coats woven in alpaca, cashmere and wool, wrapped over tiered skirts and wearing fairisle sweaters with tie-print taffeta skirts.
The colour palette she had chosen was navy, grey, brown and black.
The Betty Jackson collection had a touch of 1980's style with ankle-length hemlines and cocoon shapes.
Flat bonnets, tied under the chin, added an unusual touch and shimmering anoraks, dresses and smocks in old-gold organza brought a lively mood in the audience.
The quintessential Englishwoman, Margaret Howell presented a wardrobe with an element of cosy warmth and approachability.
Howell's creations had a mixture of 1960s style as well as 21st-century versions.
A range of soft, cotton, granddad shirts were paired with shorn off, tweed trousers to silk skirts in a muted, zig-zag print. There were tailored suits based upon air force jackets and slim skirts, accessorised with RAF caps.
