Reputed Australian fashion designer John Claringbold passed away on February 19, 2007 at Griffith, in southern New South Wales. He was 78.
Claringbold developed his fashion career in Melbourne. His creations were endorsed by celebrities, socialites and ballet dancers as well. Young local designers take inspiration from his work.
He was conferred Masters of Fashion gown of the year award five times. Other achievements include selection as a judge for the jurist panel at Victorian Fashion Awards. Claringbold shifted to Griffith 15 years back.
His collection of gowns, spanning a period of 50 years, has been bought by The Griffith Art Gallery.
