Yesterday, designer Miriam, who was based at Powerscourt Design Centre in Dublin, died from ovarian cancer.
She was in her early 40s and her outstanding work was outfit worn by President McAleese.
Born in Co Armagh, Miriam Mone studied at Preston Polytechnic, Lancashire, from 1983 to 1984 and at Limerick College of Art and Design from 1984 to 1987.
Her collection, featuring sharply tailored daywear in plain, strong colours, was awarded with The Late Late Show 'Designer of the Year' accolade in 1995.
She has continued to win various other fashion awards including the 'Irish Designer of the Year', the 'Grolsch Question of Style Award', the 'Trainee Designer of the Year Award' and the 'Satzenbrau Fashion Award for Partywear'.
Miriam studied at Preston Polytechnic in Lancashire from 1983 to 1984 before attending Limerick College of Art and Design.
