Renowned fashion designer Pino Lancetti passed away in Rome on March 8, 2007. He was 78.

Lancetti began his career in ceramics and then shifted to the field of fashion. He was famous for his 1960s printed fabrics inspired from artwork.

He was called the 'artist-couturier' of Italy. His prominent works include an army style collection in 1963 and dresses inspired by Modigliani's portraits of ladies.

Lancetti sold his fashion house to Tuscan industrialist Ugo Paci after retiring in 2001. He spent his last years making paintings.

Mariapia Garavaglia, Deputy Mayor of Rome, has extended a written condolence message stating that Pino Lancetti was one of the most innovative fashion designers due to his ability to elaborate on painting themes.
