NID students to showcase own labels at 2007 LFW

AHMEDABAD:

Three students from NID participated earlier in Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) under Generation Next (Gen Next) category for fresh design students and later graduated to Emerging Designers category in just the second LFW held in October-November of the same year, is quite an achievement

The designers will now be participating in upcoming 2007 LFW as Established Designers and will trade garments under their own label and company.

The three students of Apparel and Merchandising Design_ Rahul Mishra, Samar Firdos and Deepti Toor represented NID at the newly-introduced Gen Next category at LFW held in Mumbai.

Participating for third time the thre students now plan to make business deals under their own labels of 'Rahul & Firdos' and 'Design Toor'.

Rahul and Samar have floated their label, 'Rahul & Firdos', and have established a company called Designare.

Their label has been appreciated in international fraternity and they have been invited to Australia and Venice Fashion Week to be held in April-May and September-October this year respectively.

Deepti, entered into a year-long contract with Kolkata-based R B Enterprise to promote her label of garments 'Design Toor'.

"After the success of our first fashion show at LFW, we were given the opportunity to participate in the Emerging Designers category in October last year. This is our third Fashion Week participation, but the first under Established Designers category. We have already made a heavy investment in our garments and will be bearing the cost for participation, adding upto lakhs of rupees," said Samar Firdos.

Rahul is currently pursuing higher studies at Istituto Marangoni in Milan and will be back around August this year and Samar is looking after all activities of his company.
