Asian Paints' annual exercise studying lifestyle trends to predict colours that will be in vogue in home interiors this year has finalized a collection of 21 shades for six key decor trends. And gold will rule the palette.

Quest for luxury will make gold the predominant hue in fashion and lifestyle, according to fashion designer Sabyasachi.

"From details in clothing and accessories to furniture, and even walls, this yellow metallic shade is the next big trend. Whether you tone it down with neutrals, rustic and organic components or play it up the baroque way — a touch of gold becomes almost imperative," he said.

To showcase richness and prosperity, yellow looks fabulous when it is combined with the right shades, said Nitin Desai, international production designer.

Gold, the all-time classic shade adds richness and character, said fashion designer Neeta Lulla.

"Through the years, my designs are identified with the use of dull gold in films and mainstream clothes, thus giving them the richness that's essentially required," she said.

"Gold reminds me of the sun which symbolises never-ending energy and consistent radiance. It is capable of exuding various moods and hues. It'll surely take over this year," said singer-actor Raageshwari.
