If you have a penchant for Victorian jewellery or Traditional Vietnemese Laquerware, Jaipuri prints or Aligarh's famous phool-patti appliqué work, then you can take a pick of these and much more at ongoing design exhibition, The Haute Haat, at Chinmaya Centre here.
The exhibition is on lines of a marketplace and designed to offer a platform to potential designers from various arenas like home décor, stationery, fashion and other accessories.
"It is a retail design show, which features almost 50 exhibitors, chosen on account of the finesse and novelty of their products. The common chord, which runs through them, is the value for design and aesthetics," he says.
An exclusive line of European home accessories is also being showcased by Gupta. "Ours is a niche product so we are simply displaying and booking bulk orders. The idea is to gauge the taste of the customers and the price cuts," he adds.
One of the most sought after styles in exhibition is phool-patti appliqué work in cotton, tussar and crepe.
"What chikan work is to Lucknow, phool-patti work is to Aligarh. Though very intricate and unique, the craft is somehow limited to remote bylanes of Aligarh. We are now making an attempt to popularise it and are marketing it under the brand name Breeze," says Sabiha, the stallholder.
Block prints of Rajasthan are displayed at Leela stall. "We have sarees and dress material in soothing shades and designs apt for a perfect summer wear. Jaipuri dupattas are also in great demand," says Shveta of Leela.
