NEW DELHI:
Designer duo of Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna and Ritu Kumar showcased their collections at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) Wednesday evening, dominated by butterflies and vegetable colours.

Rohit-Rahul's collection marked butterfly prints and retro look which were inspired by 1970s' stylized wallpapers and fashion diva Maggie of 1960s.

"The butterfly prints are inspired by the wallpapers of 70s and the collection is inspired by what the fashion diva of the 60s Maggie wore today. There is simplicity and use of non-colour," the designer duo told.

Collection comprising of frosted canvases, linen wool, lurex, Banarasi silk, cotton and fabrics with metallic lacquer were the result of several experiments with the palette possessing all shades of gray, charcoal and black.

Boxy jackets, peg skirts, kimono sleeves, skinny trousers, wallpaper stockings, knee skimming dresses, embroidery veiled with tulle and sheeted fastenings emphasizing very high waist, were created for the collection.

Ritu Kumar's collection 'Urban Roots' splashed vegetable colours on the ramp, showing concern for ecology.

Traditional Kangra paintings lent foliage and colour to camouflage prints that resulted in merging of distinct styles.

The palette includes earthy shades of browns, forest greens and rich ochres, summed up in fluid skirts and jersey tops.

Cotton and wring spun denims had the dramatic look, infused with various bleaching techniques and embroidery.

"Through the collection we are looking at our roots and our ecology. Keeping in mind the ecology I have only used vegetable colours and natural fabrics like cotton in my collection. I think the girls were looking really great in them," said Ritu Kumar.
