George Davies, the famous fashion designer who had earlier launched Next, George at Asda and the Per Una of Marks & Spencer, is currently negotiating with Wm Morrison about the launching of a clothing line for the grocery chain.
The Bradford-based supermarket is trying to venture into fashion retailing. It is negotiating with George Davies who had designed three most popular high street brands. Dalton Philips, the new chief executive of Wm Morrison is interested in expanding the chain and retailing other items besides food.
This venture would see George Davies entering into supermarket retailing almost after a decade. In 2000, he left Asda and then he launched Per Una for Marks & Spencer. Creating a successful line for Morrison would permit Davies to make for the loss which his latest brand GIVe had to incur. Following its launch in October 2009, most of the GIVe outlets had to close down. Besides, being the fourth clothing line of the designer, it was too pricey and high-fashion for the common customers.
