Eminent fashion designers from Peru are showcasing exclusive garments made of pima cotton, alpaca and vicuna at the Sao Paulo Fashion Room during April 27-May 25, 2017 in Brazil. The event, which seeks to foster business between Peruvian designers and high-fashion boutiques in Brazil, brings together about 250 Brazilian buyers seeking high-end apparel.

Peru's participation at this clothing industry exhibition and sale space for high fashion apparel and accessories in Brazil has been facilitated by Peru's Trade Office in Sao Paulo (Ocex Sao Paulo) and Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), according to a Peruvian news agency report.

On the first day, Brazilian firms like Espaço Edna Aguiar, Maison, Village, Martha, Sabrina Paiva, among others, witnessed Peruvian designs by Meche Correa, Claudia Bertolero, Sergio Davila, Jose Clemente and Sumy Kujon, whose work includes embroidery practices by Peruvian communities, the report said.

"The event seeks to foster business between Peruvian designers and high-fashion boutiques in Brazil. For this purpose, we are encouraging the usage of the Internationalisation Platform, established in 2005 by Ocex Sao Paulo and Promperu - a strategy that facilitates access of Peruvian garments into this market," Peruvian ministry of foreign trade and tourism (Mincetur) said.

This internationalisation strategy enables Brazilian buyers to acquire Peruvian products without an import permit. The platform provides Brazilians with the possibility to purchase as in Brazil, using their local billing and delivery address.

The trade platform has helped set up new sales channels for baby clothing, pima cotton t-shirts for Brazilian public institutions, private labels and multi-brand lines. (SV)
