Tuskegee University said from the revolutionary strides made by George Washington Carver in the agricultural sciences to the visionary stance taken by the University to educate and train the Tuskegee Airmen – the nation's first African-American fighter pilots, ground-breaking research and outreach are nothing new at Tuskegee University.

“President Bush's interest in the research and outreach being conducted at Tuskegee University is not an accidental or isolated development,” University President Benjamin F. Payton said, regarding President George W. Bush's planned visit to the campus on Wednesday, April 19.

“The T-CAM component of our Ph.D. program in Material Science and Engineering is an example of our focus on education as a process of discovery and outreach.”
